  7. In the adjacent drop-down menu, select the domain for the email address.
  8. In the From field, enter the name that the auto-response will be from.
  9. In the Subject field, provide the subject you would like the Auto Responder to contain.
  10. Click the HTML checkbox if the body of the email will contain HTML. If you leave it unchecked, HTML tags will show up as plain text in the auto-response.
  11. In the Body field, provide the body of the message you wish to be sent in the Auto Responder. You can use tags to insert information:
    • %subject% – displays the subject in the body of the email
    • %from% – shows the name of the sender Auto Responder is replying to
    • %email% – shows the sender’s email address
  12. Select a Start and Stop time.

Slow Mail Connections

The following are known to cause slow mail connections:
Computer Virus/worm.

There are viruses that can cause very slow connections if your computer is infected.
If your not running a malware and antivirus progam on your computer you should.
There are free antivirus programs such as Avast that will make sure you computer files
are protected.
Disable virus scanner integration.

Virus scanners which integrates themselves with Outlook are a known source of causing all sorts of send receive issues. For instance, the following time-out issues are often a result of this;

  • The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server
  • A time-out occurred while communicating with the server

Other issues a virus scanner integrated with Outlook can cause:

  • Outlook being very slow in collecting your email
  • Messages ending up stuck in your Outbox
  • Messages being sent but never received
  • Sending or receiving blank messages
  • General message corruption

Check your firewall settings.

Firewalls can block incoming and outgoing traffic so make sure that Outlook and/or the required ports for email are listed as an exception to go through.

If you are presented with send/receive errors after updating Outlook, you probably need to reconfigure your firewall to re-allow Outlook to pass-through again. This is because several firewall solutions (such as ZoneAlarm) verify via a hash that it is indeed the correct outlook.exe that is trying to pass through the firewall and not some virus which named itself outlook.exe. Since with some updates the outlook.exe gets updated as well, you’ll need to accept it as safe again. You can find more information about this in the manual of your firewall solution.

Issues with add-ins

Aside from virus scanners, there could be other add-ins installed which integrate itself with the send/receive process of Outlook. Loading Outlook in Safe Mode is a good first step to see if add-ins are indeed the cause of the issues.

To further troubleshoot add-ins, manually disable each of them and re-enable them one-by-one to find the culprit.

Trendy Builder FTP

Be sure to save your work frequently.

When done it will ask you to add a domain and FTP information.

You will need to setup a ftp account specifically for this purpose.

InboxSentry

Spam Filtering

The InboxSentry system in its default configuration and default Spam Scoring settings is capable of detecting and blocking up to 98% of all Spam/UCE received by the system.

The Spam Scanning & Filtering Engine on the system also incorporates a number ofself-tuningandauto-learningmechanisms, including Bayesian Analysis and Learning, which can automatically increase the accuracy and sensitivity of the system over time.

It is also possible to increase the percentage of Spam/UCE detected and either blocked, quarantined or tagged by modifying theSpam Score Levelsin the Spam Filter configuration screen of the control panel.

Bytuningthe system over time you will be able to achieve the optimal level of Spam/UCE detection and management for your email user base and the specific type and content of email messages received by your users.

Spam Scoring Tag Levels

The defaultTag Levelrefers to the minimum Spam Score of an email message before it istagged orflaggedas possible Spam/UCE. Messages scoring over this level will cause the system to the addX-Spam-StatusandX-Spam-Levelheaders to the email so that they canbe identified on the recipient end if necessary as being Spam or not-Spam and at what Spam Score Level the message has been assessed at.

AntiSpamFilterScoring

The default “Action/Kill Level” is set at “12”. Messages scoring over this level will be sent to the Spam Quarantine.

A general example of more responsive settings for Spam Scoring would be:

Tag Level: 2 to 3
Advanced Tag Level: 3.5 to 5
Action/Kill Level: 6 to 10

when setting the Spam Scoring Level values, the lower this number the more sensitive the filter becomes.

Whitelisting / Blacklisting Not Working

TheFromorreply toaddress of a message might appear as being one thing, but this doesn’t mean that this is the actual sender address for the message and therefore, the correct one to white list.

Whitelisting (and blacklisting) on the system is based on what is known as theenvelope sender” address or domain, which is the real sender address or domain for a message, this is because anyone can specify practically anything they like for theFromorreply toaddress in their email client or sending application so this is easily faked or forged.

The envelope sender address is easy to find in that it’s usually at the very top of the message.

Once again, while in many cases thefromorreply toaddress will be the same as the actual envelope sender address, if some sort of automatic or bulk/mass email is involved the real sender address may be different so it’s a good idea to check this unless it’s a regular sender. Adverts and newsletters, in particular, use aVERPtype return address, which is a long random string  used for tracking purposes, which are almost never the same as thefromorreply toaddress in the message.

Can I download the log files for Magic Spam?

Magic spam allows you to search the logs and will provide a download of the newest 100 entries in your search criteria. You can do different searches and down load the newest 100 of each of the searches performed.

Can I view Blocked emails in Magicspam

No, Magic Spam  blocks spam before the mail server receives it so there is no way to recover a blocked email. Magic spam does maintain logs on the emails that were blocked.

How does magic spam block email

Magic spam uses a number of different algorithms and lists to block spam emails. Magic spam can be very aggressive so its very important to build a good list of exemptions.

You may also want to turn off some of the default recommended lists and algorithms and monitor the mail coming in and slowly add them back if your getting to much spam. This way you will have more time to build your white list and can watch to make sure email you want to receive is not being blocked.

Where is the Magic spam log file located

You will find the log file here:

/home/your-username-here/magicspam/logs

This file includes all the logs unlike the web interface which is limited to 100 entries per download.
